Our seaweed is sourced from all around the world based on its high mineral content and combine it with plant-based ingredients at clinically tested levels for results you can sea.\n\nGeneration of Women Inspired by the Sea\nOur family’s relationship with the sea can be traced back to over 100 years ago.\n\nIn the 1920s our great-grandmother Elsa, a chiropractor, injured herself and became bedridden. She was unable to care for her patients for months. One night a message came to her in a dream:\n\n“The ocean will heal you.”\n\nAt sunrise she insisted her husband carry her down to the sea near their home on Long Island. After swimming for a few days, her leg began to improve. She was healed within a few months. Elsa attributed her recovery to the minerals and trace elements present in saltwater and the abundance of seaweed found in the sea.\n\nThe women of our family followed Elsa’s dedication to healing and wellness.\n\nBorrowing from our grandmother’s wisdom, Jenefer started mixing her own formulas rooted in the healing power of the sea. After a decade of formulation, OSEA officially launched in 1996. Our name, OSEA, is inspired by nature’s elements: Ocean, Sun, Earth, Atmosphere. It’s our philosophy and practice that we protect the elements that we draw from.\n\nVegan \u0026amp; Cruelty Free\n\nWe’ve been using vegan and cruelty-free ingredients since the beginning. We’re Vegan certified by PETA. We’re also Cruelty Free-certified by Leaping Bunny.\n\nSustainability \u0026amp; Packaging\n\nAt OSEA, we’ve always been guided by the belief that sustainability is the only way forward. Since launching in 1996, we have prioritized recyclable packaging like glass and naturally-derived ingredients.\n\nAdvocating for Clean\n\nIn 2004, we became the first company to sign The Compact for Global Production of Safe Health and Beauty Products, an initiative from the Environmental Working Group. Their mission is to ensure products are “free of chemicals that are known or strongly suspected of causing cancer, mutation or birth defects.” We continue to lobby our legislatures and advocate for safe skincare for all.\n\nClean Beauty Since 1996\n\nSince the beginning, “clean” skincare and body care has been at the heart of everything we do, but what does it mean? Every decision and every product we make considers the impact on our planet and collective wellbeing.\n\nClimate Responsible\n\nAs a brand whose name is inspired by nature’s elements, Ocean, Sun, Earth + Atmosphere, we have a distinct duty to protect the elements that we draw from. In 2020, we became one of the first skincare brands to be The Climate Label Certified through The Change Climate Project. This means each year, we measure our cradle-to-customer emissions, implement action plans to reduce them, and invest in high quality, verified carbon credits.\n\nOcean Responsible\n\nAs a seaweed-based brand, we know that healthy oceans are crucial to protecting our planet. In 2022, we began partnering with SeaTrees to support coastal restoration projects like mangrove planting in Mida Creek, Kenya and forest protection in Cambodia’s Southern Cardamom region that work to sequester carbon from the atmosphere.\n\nPackaging, Progress \u0026amp; Innovation\n\nWe believe that sustainability is the only way forward. Since launching in 1996, we have prioritized recyclable packaging like glass. Today, OSEA is reducing virgin plastic by switching to product pumps and lids made with post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, aiming for 50% PCR content in all plastic components.
